Listener Reviews

Entertaining and informative
I have tried out several investing/retirement shows, but this one is the only one that keeps my attention.
Educational and Entertaining
Don and Tom answer questions about money and have fun while doing it. I find their responses to be accurate and practical. They tackle a range of topics involving money. Wish I had found this podcast sooner so I would have benefited from their insights earlier. It’s the first podcast I listen to each day. Thanks Don and Tom!
Extremely fair balanced
I’ve been listening to financial related shows since the 1980s starting with radio then migrating to podcasts. Don and Tom are as fair balanced and straight shooters as you will find anywhere. They have been there, done that, and have no dog in the fight. They are simply trying to impart the wisdom they have acquired over several decades. Unlike 90% of other radio shows and podcast, they are not trying to sell you anything. They know from experience that you want to be the tortoise and not the hare.
No Kidding!
Of course Don listens to John Oliver, like a normal Floridian Republican would do. Your other podcast should be called “Lib Reading”! Keep up the great woke!
Great Info about Money
Tom and Don share really sound information about how to manage and invest your money. They try to keep it as simple as possible so the info is sensible from all.
Long overdue
Hey Don and Tom, this review is long overdue. I have been lazy to post. I have been listening to your podcasts for at least the last 5 plus years. You guys are so humorous and the friendly banter is amazing. I have fallen a few weeks behind . Currently on the last week of November episodes. And trust me when they say there is no upselling or gimmicks when you call Tom’s team. I had a call with Tom and Roxy a few months ago and was never upsold anything. To be fair however, I feel they might have a slight bias against owning individual real estate assets as investments, and of course the infamous Bitcoin 😀 Also, I feel that they push Avantis and Dimensional products, even when there are cheaper Vanguard and Schwab products
Best Investment Advice
Informative and engaging, more importantly they gave me the confidence and knowledge to self manage my taxable and retirement accounts.
Easy to follow advice
I have listened to this podcast for years. The hosts offer actionable and understandable advice for do it yourselfers. They cover a range of options so you can have one or two funds or if you prefer several to get to similar results. To boot, they are so entertaining—Don the curmudgeon with his (faux?) outrage and the ever-avuncular Tom to smooth things out when Don is in high dudgeon. It’s always a treat when Roxy joins as well.
Enjoyable & Informative
I’ve made Tom & Don a regular part of my walks. They’ve provide me with great insights, ways to rethink about my financial hodgepodge and begin to get things in line. I miss T&D of I go a few days without listening but then I’m happy to be able to binge listen 😃. Also, the length of each episode is perfect for my listening pleasure. Keep up the great work Tom & Don 👍🏻😃
Great
Love the show. Don’t get why the haters have to leave negative reviews. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. I do find it “fascinating” how Tom says “etc, etc, etc” multiple times per show. Keep up the great work guys. My favorite podcast and I listen to several.
JLCollins!
When Tom and Roxy said they didn’t know who JL Collins was all members of the FIRE community, and most other personal finance devotees, let out a collective gasp. He’s a HUGE figure in personal finance. The Simple Path To Wealth is revered by many people doing DIY personal finance.
Horse in the race…
I agree with Don when he said that people tend to talk up investments when they too are invested in that said investment. Don was talking about Bitcoin, but it could be anything. Great observation and insight Don, I guess time will be the ultimate judge on Bitcoin.
Good show, most of the time
Entertaining show when they are able to leave their political bias out. They say they are unbiased, but over and over again they will call a tax break by the GOP “pandering” while not applying the same standard to student loans or other free stuff provided by the Dems . Can’t trust the new head of the BLS or the new FED Chair, but we have unending faith that all the data was unbiased from the previous ones? And you are so sure of that how? If they were consistent in their criticisms, I could let it slide.
Love Talking Real Money
Tom, Don, and Roxie, I love listening to the show! It's very educational and entertaining at the same time! Talking Real Money is really good at stressing what not to do - bad annuities, crypto, high fees, etc., and really excels in this area. Tom and Don are dedicated to educate and serve their listeners. Roxie is so well spoken, articulate, and makes understanding questions on Q & A so much simpler to understand. Thanks for all you do! Thanks Tom for reviewing my portfolio earlier, it's truly appreciated! Aubin
Love it!
It’s must listen to! Changed my life!
Great info but slightly misguided on International bonds
Love the show and I’m a long time listener. But these guys often say they’re not fans of international bonds due to the currency exposure. But a fund like BNDX is actually currency hedged so there’s no currency risk. Furthermore, international bonds provide more diversification than holding only US bonds.
Has Tom been informed about the new cohost?
Just listen to the latest episode and look forward to the new cohost on Friday Q&A.
I’ve been listening for years!
This is my first time leaving a review. I was told about this show years ago by a coworker. I’m so glad I tuned in because it really helped me shift my financial mindset to a financial planning mindset. I knew I wanted to be set at retirement and I needed to know I was on the right track. In some ways I was and in other ways this show helped me grow. I still continue to listen daily and if I get behind I always catch up! Thank you for your years of wisdom, knowledge, and honesty around products that aren’t so great. I appreciate you always reminding us that the market is emotional and how much it is affected by what is going on in the world. Buy and Hold! Woohoo!!
Excellent podcast
Very informative.
Best investment show in the podcast network
This podcast is hands down the best. Extremely informative and provides valuable information for both the beginning investor as well as the do it yourself more seasoned investor. It gets right to the point and does not waste your time. Love love love it.
Everyone likes an Underdog!
Tom and Don put out a ton of content, almost as much as Ramsey with his army of employees. Tom and Don have their quirks and I don't always agree, but that is what I like about them. A little drama keeps it real for a topic that most folks find painfully boring. Don can beat the same drum over and over, but I love a good bashing of so called "Financial Advisors" aka Insurance Salesperson cooking up a Steak dinner or smacking Ramsey for his 8% retirement withdraw rate or his 1980 style mutual funds. I am still a fan of Ramsey even though he has a ton of flaws. Tom, the good cop, is so upbeat and keeps the show intertaining. One of them once said investing is 80% behavioral and 20% math. That made me realize that investing does not need to be all that complicated, just stay the course.
Thank You
Thank you Don and Tom for working 6 days a week. You are making a difference in many people’s lives. I personally have learned so much from both of you. Great information daily!
The Real Deal
I’ve been listening to Tom & Don for years and gained so much confidence in them that I hired ApellaWealth to manage my 401K when I retired. Roxy is my analyst and is absolutely top in her field and I enjoy her visits to Talking Real Money. Highly recommend both Talking Real Money and ApellaWealth.
Teachers and learners
I always come away with learning something new from the dialogue of Tom and Don. I do wish Don would not interrupt Tom so often resulting in talking over each other. When that happens, its frustrating to understand.
